Pierson Summer Vacation
Trip Report – Part One
Trip Report – Part One
After the girls first overnight plane flight, we met our driver and were on our way to the Hotel St. Germain. The excitement, movies and video games on the plane made it a little hard to get a good night’s sleep on the plane, so the first thing we did after checking into the hotel was clean up and take a short rest.
We then took a late afternoon walk and found an authentic Paris café only a few blocks from the hotel where we enjoyed some traditional escargot, a simple salad, and a much needed glass of wine and beer for mom and dad. After our late lunch we strolled along a few of the city streets, making a stop for a chocolate éclair and then returned to our room to enjoy our Complimentary Virtuoso Wine & Cheese amenity and very tasty light meal through Room Service.
After a sound night’s sleep, we were up and out early the following morning for a full day of touring around Paris.
We weren’t sure what to expect, planning to tour the city of Paris on the same day that the Tour de France was ending in the center of the city – we ended up being pleasantly surprised. Our driver let us know that the locals would be staying away from the chaos, and we truly did benefit as many of the streets were empty and traffic was at a minimum. We were able to zip through many of the city highlights – the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the hilltop village of Montmarte, a couple of Cathedrals, one of which was completely empty, and then Notre Dame during their Sunday Mass, and then finished our day with a Scavenger Hunt for the girls in the Louvre, which was also empty compared to normal traffic levels. Ella’s goals for visiting Paris were accomplished – she had asked to see the Eiffel tower and the Mona Lisa. With the help of our knowledgeable guide and the light traffic in the streets we had accomplished that and much more by late afternoon.
After a full day of touring, we found another tasty Café for dinner, where Ella struck up a conversation with a nice young 17 year old French Student, and Emily took a nap. The following day were were headed out of Paris on the TGV down to Lyon to begin our Tauck River Cruise aboard the MS Emerald.
