A large white sailing ship, the Sea Cloud II, with tall masts and rigging floats on blue ocean water under a partly cloudy sky; a smaller yacht is visible in the distance.

Tracy & Kevin Experience the Sea Cloud II

I recently had the opportunity to sail aboard the Sea Cloud II and what an amazing experience!  This beautiful vessel’s sails are still manually hoisted by an expert crew, the vessel is spotless teak wood, stainless steel and brass with thousands of feet of roping.  Holding only 94 guests with a staff of 65 hard working and ready to serve staff creates an intimate, relaxing and very friendly week with a variety of international travelers and crew.

Sailing on Sea Cloud II is definitely a unique experience. The decore of the ship, traveling under sail and the intimacy of this vessel makes you feel like time has turned back and you are sailing in luxury at the turn of the century.  All lunches and several dinners were alfresco on the deck surrounded by beautiful scenery, sea birds calling and waves lapping the sides of the ship.  The food was amazing and freshly sourced served as gorgeous  buffets with unlimited wine, beer and cocktails.  Breakfast and some dinners were served in the formal dining room ala carte by waitstaff.

Because of the intimate size of Sea Cloud II sailing the smaller, lesser known islands from Barbados to St. Martin was like seeing the Caribbean the way it used to be – unhurried, relaxing, crystal clear waters and islands untouched by development.   I love being on the water and sailing the Caribbean, which I have been to many, many times in my career with Wallace Pierson Travel.  If you are looking for a close to home trip that is relaxing, unhurried and 10 days or less,  I always recommend sailing in the Caribbean.  Even if you have been before, consider exploring this area again by choosing a unique ship experience like Sea Cloud II.
